We believe Jesus Christ is the Head of the Church and that we are called
to be His light, reflecting Him in the Episcopal Church and the World. We are committed to
the renewal of the Church - especially within our denomination.
A
FOUNTAIN
We are a place where people can come and be refreshed by the Living Water
of the Holy Spirit. Those who have been physically or emotionally wounded or are weary of
running the race are being renewed, restored and healed. The outpouring of God's Presence
is bringing healing to the brokenhearted, setting free those who have been held in bondage
and restoring Jesus as our first love.
A
BRIDGE
Historically, The Episcopal (Anglican) Church has served as a bridge
between the Catholic and Protestant traditions. People from many different backgrounds and
traditions call Messiah home, and we believe god has called us to serve as a bridge in
uniting His church in the Hampton roads area.
We are evangelical in that we believe the Bible is the inspired Word of
God and that all teaching and ministry must be under its authority. We call on all people
to make a personal commitment to follow Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior.
We are liturgical in that we follow a liturgy similar to that of the early
church, one that encourages not just the pastors, but the whole congregation to
participate in worship and join together in communion each Sunday.
We are Spirit-filled in that we enjoy worshiping in spirit and in truth,
and we encourage the use of the gifts of the Holy Spirit.
A
FAMILY
We are called to be a family made up of people of various races, single
and married, young and old, with freedom to worship as God leads. We believe that Jesus
Christ has called up to unity, not uniformity. We believe we are called to provide a place
where everyone can experience a sense of belonging, especially through our Home Group Ministry.
Many come to this region
because of the military, educational opportunities or other reasons. While they are here,
we desire to embrace them as family.
A
SENDING BASE
We seek to become a base where people are equipped and then sent out to
preach the Good News. We are committed to taking the Gospel of Jesus Christ, in the power
of His Holy Spirit, to those in our neighborhoods, our nation, and the ends of the earth.
