Being the current Worship Leader at Church of the Messiah gives me an opportunity to use my musical skills and heart for worship in God's service every week. I truly feel that God has opened this door for me, and I serve out of obedience to His will.
My experience in worship goes back to about 1965 in the kiddie choir of Richfield Church outside of Akron, Ohio. My love for singing God's praises has only grown from those common beginnings. The path our lives take is often a winding one, and mine was no exception; still, through all of its twists and turns, I never lost my passion for worship. After I married and began raising a young family in New Port Richey, Florida, I once again discovered the joy of singing to the Lord. I believe He has led me along just as He led me to CBN, where I have worked as a Video Editor for the past 24 years. I have led people into the presence of the Lord at CBN's noonday Chapel services, for Bible studies, at youth retreats and men's group gatherings, as well as at several churches in the area. This latest post has not only filled a vacant position in this church, but has helped me through one of the most difficult periods of my life, testifying to the awesome, unstoppable power of prayer and praise.
I see my role as Worship Leader as creating an environment where congregants can enter into the presence of the Lord, not to play mine or anyone else's favorite song. I am sensitive to the music the Lord lays on my heart to share, and spend much time each week in prayer and preparation to bring to Messiah a worship experience that opens hearts and honors the King of Kings. It's not about you; it's not about me; rather, as the song says, it's about getting back to the heart of worship, where it's all about Jesus.
