53 He has filled the hungry with good things
but has sent the rich away empty.
54 He has helped his servant Israel,
remembering to be merciful
55 to Abraham and his descendants forever,
just as he promised our ancestors.”
56 Mary stayed with Elizabeth for about three months and then returned home.
Because we have Jesus in our hearts, we have the desire and the ability to "fill the hungry with good things" -- people who are hungry physically, emotionally and spiritually.
(1 Cor 1:27) But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong. Mary understood that God chose her, not the rich and famous, because of her weakness in the world, to reveal His power and faithfulness.
Mary probably stayed until John was born. If so, she was one of the first to see John, the messenger who was to proclaim our Lord Jesus to the world. She then went home to Nazareth, and then went to Bethlehem just a couple of months later. What trip for a mother who was to bear Christ! Mary, you were certainly a strong mother preparing for what was to come.
God is faithful to keep His promises!
